Jezebel Music's Second Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter
Competition 2005
Recorded at Galapagos Art Space, Brooklyn, NY
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, during a cold February 2005,
100 contestants played the 2nd Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition.
This gritty and original competition hosted some of New York City's top
emerging Indie songwriters.
Twelve contestants played two songs each during the finals.
For this CD, we have picked one of two songs from each finalist. Contestants
played solo: just their voices and guitars. We recorded the CD with two
mics, one live and one through the board (forgetting to track the vocals
and guitar separately!). So the blend sounds a bit raw, but adds to the
authenticity of the songs and the setting in which they were performed
that night.
The collection displays the wide range of genres that can
be found within the Williamsburg scene. On Theo Eastwind's "Set-up" you have a pop-rock 3.5 minute catchy and, ironical
track about the music industry. With Jaymay's "Over
My Head" you'll find an alternative or "neo"-folk flavor,
oozing sweet melodies with unpretentious poignant satire. With Ian
Thomas' "Poor Children" you're magically transported
south to an aggressive, edgy, country-blues feel.

Buying this CD you'll find new songs in which to fall in
love, musicians soon to be playing in your city's biggest venues, and
an appreciation for a music scene carved out of Williamsburg, Brooklyn
and the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the year 2005.
Enjoy it!
