Sweet, Sweet Nectar! : Pavement Returns in 2010

IN THE NEWS

pavement-002

Yesterday, we got some reputable news from Brooklyn Vegan that the crowning achievement of 90’s American Indie, Pavement, were stepping on stage once more for a benefit gig at Central Park next September. Exciting stuff, no doubt, but to Pavement diehards, there was the fear that this was going to be another Led Zeppelin story, that the band would simply play to a single crowd in one of the world’s biggest cities and then get back to their oh-so-important solo projects and lives (curse you, Robert Plant, and your completely legitimate reservations). But this morning, straight from the mouth of Matador Records, Pavement’s long-time label, it was made clear that this wasn’t to be the case.

Two words bitches: World Tour (that link is more out of celebration than relevance). After ten years of being apart the prominent line-up of Pavement (Stephen Malkmus, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, Bob Nastanovich, and Steve West) are back and, as Matador puts in plain English, “reuniting for dates around the world in 2010.” It’s also noted that this reunion is in no way permanent, so we shouldn’t be expecting any major Pavement projects coming up, say like a new album or a Wowee Zowee inspired musical (yes, ‘The Kennel District!’ will continue to only exist in my mind). But a compilation disc is said to be in the works, which, of course, any respectful Pavement fan wouldn’t give much of a shit about.
