Joaquin Phoenix: Bye! Good
ORIGINALITY CORNER
Andy Kaufman: wrestler, Tony Clifton, farcical comic with lung cancer. A simple “song and dance man.” Kaufman kept the media, and maybe himself, guessing until lung cancer proved a less farcical joke.
Anyway.
Back, a few months ago, Entertainmentland was having a field day debating the validity of actor Joaquin Phoenix’s announcement that he’d be embarking on a new hip hop career. Then in January, Phoenix seemed to purposely fall off the stage in Vegas, after doing a boring rap. Next, Phoenix made a quizzical appearance on the David Letterman show, during which he asked Paul if he was “f*cking serious,” as Paul maniacally laughed at Phoenix. Letterman also slighted Phoenix’s beard, lack of coherency, and unlikely hip hop success. And finally, the latest development in this b-listed hip-Joahop saga: during a perfunctory performance in Miami, Phoenix pounced on a heckler and was later accused by bloggers and the media alike of staging the incident. Wow.
