Resonance @ Matchless: FREE | Wednesday April 22, 2009
RESONANCE PREVIEW
This Wednesday at Bar Matchless, Brett Saxon, Blueyed Son, Aunt Martha (pictured), and Colin Steel & Wire*taps will perform at Resonance, for FREE.
Don’t worry, Aunt Martha is just a band name and not the woman who recently insisted on showing you pictures of men in their underwear posted on Facebook by her now-gay high school boyfriend. In fact, the folksy acoustic rock of the Brooklyn-based trio Aunt Martha will help you forget all about that, or any, awkward encounter you might have recently endured. Sleeves rolled up, Aunt Martha brings you heartfelt, earthy songs, the kind you can put your teeth into and wrap your mind around. Check out “Detroit City” on their MySpace page for a taste of what you’ll hear tomorrow night at Resonance: “Detroit City, you’re bringing me down / highways and strip malls coming up from the ground / $500 in a savings account / son of the Midwest, I’ve got to get out.” Get out! Get away from that crazy Aunt, Aunt Martha!

RESONANCE PREVIEW
You’re Invited: Resonance Housewarming Party at Matchless on Wednesday!
You are cordially invited to celebrate Resonance’s new home at Bar Matchless.
Resonance got the hell out of the Big Apple and moved into a cozy space on the corner of Manhattan and Driggs at the top of McCarren Park. This Wednesday, January 7, be there as four of Resonance’s buddies — Ramzi Khoury, Laura Meyer, Brett Saxon, and Angela Ortiz — help warm the new room of Jezebel Music’s weekly songwriter showcase. Each and every Wednesday (catastrophic weather and major holidays pending), four handpicked acts will perform for FREE. And for those who like to indulge, Bar Matchless offers a fine and rather wide array of domestic brew on tap.

Wednesday, January 7
7:00p–10:30p
NO COVER
Just one of the four singers and songwriters at the party will be Laura Meyer (pictured), whose memorable song “Atlantis” brought her to the second round of the 5th Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition this past November. Laura features unique guitar parts and arrangements, strong vocals and standout lyrics, and altogether solid songwriting. Don’t just take our word for this performer’s merits; Laura’s MySpace page gives us a some hard, cold facts: “2008 Winner of Great Waters Songwriting Contest; 2008 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song Contest Finalist; 2008 Telluride Bluegrass Troubadour Finalist; 2008 Winner of the Radio Crystal Blue Airplay Vote; 2008 Recognized by BMI for Professional Songwriting; 2007 NEMO/Starbucks Music Makers Competition Finalist; 2007 Telluride Bluegrass Troubadour Honorable Mention; 2007 Mountain Stage NewSong Northeast Finalist; 2007 Recognized by BMI for Professional Songwriting and Vocal Performance; 4x recipient of the ASCAPlus Award.”
See you Wednesday!!!
