About Us.

Jezebel Music is an innovative music and event promotion company capturing the imagination of the New York independent music scene, with a focus on Williamsburg. We currently produce 12 events a month throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Our events include the Monthly Feature Show, a monthly BANDS showcase, the monthly Consignment indie rock party, the weekly Resonance songwriter showcase, and a weekly open mic called Songfair, as well as the Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition, currently in its fifth year of production.

What exactly do we do?
We find and promote top independent musicians to give them the larger audience that they deserve. We find bands and singer-songwriters through our research, word of mouth, and submissions. We promote through our shows, street promotion, and of course our website. Basically, we act as a free promotion service for music that we believe in.

What kind of music are we interested in?
Innovative music with a focus on the art of song, from punk to folk. We are not guided by any single genre or musical style. At this point, a quick listen to past Jezebel Music Monthly Features will show some of the variety that you can expect from us. You'll hear, pop, folk, rock, punk, and experimental, but underneath each style you'll also hear the kind of quality and individuality that draws our ears in.

Who is Jezebel Music?

Gabriel Levitt,
Founder and President.
Gabriel has 17 years experience in music: 10 as a musician, and 7 as music promoter, show host, and reviewer. Gabriel founded Jezebel Music in January of 2005. He received his BA with a double major in political science and international relations from Roger Williams University and an MA in international relations from the American University. Gabriel is also Executive Producer of the Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition (WLSC), founded in 2003, and, in conjunction, of the documentary about the 3rd Annual WLSC.

Dan D'Ippolito, Operations Manager.
Dan graduated from New York University with a BA in Psychology. He worked directly with the upper management of a psychoanalytic training institute, establishing operational organization by creating and maintaining records, and aiding in the coordination and management of workshops and conferences. He now puts these organizational and administrative skills to managing Jezebel Music's operations, researching and approaching sponsors, and facilitating business development in cooperation with the company's president. He also writes for the Jezeblog and hosts events from time to time. And last but not least, Dan is a lifelong musician, songwriter and performer, and consummate music enthusiast. He has played at no less than 30 venues in New York City and released several independent records.

Melissa Stanley, Director of A&R and Booking.
Melissa is in charge of online production, talent scouting, and bookings. A native of upstate New York, she majored in the music industry program at the State University of New York College at Oneonta. She worked for Step Up Presents, a top concert promoter in Albany. After graduating, she moved to Manhattan to work for the highly-respected indie record label, Gigantic Music, where she was the street team & new online media promotions coordinator. During school Melissa also founded Little Room Records which has since released one album for the band Skylight Honey.

Ben Krieger, Editor of Jezeblog.
Hailing from Cleveland, Ben came out to New York and taught elementary school for 4 years. He played his first live show at (!) the Orange Bear. A music geek, to date Ben has collected about 1300 records, (very) humbly "released" 6 records of his own material, amassed a songbook of about 700 compositions, founded and split one rock band, and now writes enthusiastically for Jezebel. He remains active in the public schools and would be more productive if Law & Order didn't exist.

Jay Hammond, Open Mic Host.
Jay Hammond is an active songwriter/musician, and a member of the shiny new Brooklyn band "The Seed and the Sprawl." He attended Berklee College of Music where he studied jazz guitar and made a lot of racket. His duties at Jezebel are far-reaching and kinda scattered. Jay is the host of Songfair, Jezebel's Monday night open mic at Sound Fix, and he hopes that you will come play your songs for him.

Mike Meyer,
Art & Design.
Representing the west side, Mike is a designer residing in Portland, Oregon, a place he has called home since birth. Mike is currently working towards a B.F.A in digital arts and art at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where he also works as a pre-school teacher aide (commonly known as "Mikey Bo Bikey"). He has previously applied his design efforts toward a music webzine, Berzerkerzine, that emphasized the budding Portland music scene. Mike could not be more excited to work for an effort that not only promotes superior independent talent, but also allows him use his creativity to express his love for discovering new musical talent.

Kyra LaMariana, Event Photographer.
Kyra LaMariana attended the Fashion Institute of Technology for Accessory Design before becoming the Jezebel event photographer and intern. Working at Jezebel led her to meet Melissa, and common interests between the two led to the creation of the band Cathedral. She is a multi-instrumentalist and hopes to one day sail the world, photographing and playing music.
